Using ZBrush to sculpt major muscle groups in the leg for a ½-scale prototype of our muscle bags and skin system

Explored posing, character placement, as well as queue design and practical transformation sequences.

The articulation in these character heads (eye left-right, blink, mouth open-close) needed to emote, make eye contact with guests, and deliver 50+ prerecorded phrases at the push of a button.

To be successful, the characters' faces needed to be lightweight and as flexible as possible while still durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of park use. Novel casting techniques and clear integration with the costume elements was required.

An animatronic/puppet hybrid character with movie-accurate fur and face detailing, rapid lip sync, and six programmed expressions allows each Donkey performer to connect with (and make fun of) thousands of park guests daily.

The design of this character needed to reflect the size, shape, and gait of the original design while reducing weight wherever possible.
